About Travel to Hanoi

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam, and it’s a large and busy city with around 4 million people living in the city centre and a further 4 million people within the wider metropolitan area. There are lots of hotels in Hanoi located in other parts of the city, for example some of the city’s top hotels are located to the north of Hoan Kiem on the edge of West Lake, however, the highest concentration of tourist accommodation in Hanoi is in the Old Quarter.

Hanoi’s Old Quarter is very popular with leisure visitors for a number of reasons. Foremost of which are the historic buildings, many with European style architectural features, densely packed together on narrow streets teeming with life. It’s an attractive and atmospheric part of the city. The Old Quarter also has several well known visitor attractions and is close to many of the city’s other famous tourist attractions.

Hanoi has several clusters of tourist attractions. A good strategy for visiting these attractions is to take a taxi to a particular location, visit the different sites within each cluster, and then to take another taxi to a different location, and once again set out on foot exploring the points of interest in that part of the city.

Hanoi is the main travel hub for the northern part of Vietnam, at the top end of one of South East Asia’s longest passenger train lines which terminates in Ho Chi Minh City in the south of Vietnam.
