The Sipanya Guesthouse is a brand new guesthouse in Phonsavan, which is the main town of the Plain of Jars in Laos. The Sipanya Guesthouse is 11.7 km from Jar Site 1.
Good points about Sipanya Guesthouse
The Sipanya Guesthouse is located on a dirt road behind the Phoukam Garden Agriculture Wet Market, which is the largest fresh food market in the province and the centre of Phonsavan town. From the Sripanya Guesthouse it’s a 5 minute walk to all three of the town’s ‘international’ restaurant and lots more local restaurants.

The Sipanya Guesthouse is one of Phonsavan’s best value for money hotels. The building is a lot more luxurious than the other budget options in town and a lot cheaper the generally overpriced ‘Western’ styled hotels in the area. The owners of the Sipanya Guesthouse have given some careful thought about creating a hotel that fills a gap in the local market and are likely to enjoy financial success with their new business over the next few years.
The service at the Sipanya Guesthouse is also good. The reception staff speak good English and they are very friendly. The guesthouse has a pleasant atmosphere as a consequence.
Rooms at Sipanya Guesthouse
The rooms at the Sipanya Guesthouse are clean and modern, if slightly bare. At the moment there is nothing on the walls except for fans, a mirror and clothes hooks. The room I stayed in did not have air-conditioning, however, given that Phonsavan is 1,093 metres above sea level it rarely gets hot enough there to need air-conditioning.

I found the beds at the Sipanya Guesthouse comfortable. There is no satellite or cable TV, although the WiFi works well.

The bathrooms at the Sipanya Guesthouse are large enough and the showers have a good supply of hot water, but not great. Like nearly all hotels in Laos (with the exception of branded hotels in Vientiane and Luang Prabang) the bathroom do not feature a separate shower cubicle which means the floor gets wet when you shower and stays that way all day. That should not put you off staying at the Sipanya Guesthouse as the bathrooms everywhere else in Phonsavan are the same or worse.
Facilities at Sipanya Guesthouse
The Sipanya Guesthouse provides free tea and coffee in the reception area, as well as a small range of drinks for sale at prices only slightly more expensive than the shops in the town. Other than this they do no catering on site.

There is a pleasant seating area outside the Sipanya Guesthouse where you can sit and drink your free tea or coffee.

Both floors of rooms at the Sipanya Guesthouse have a balcony in front of them. There is a pleasant view from the balcony on both levels over fields and nearby hill. This is an advantage of staying outside the town centre in the Sipanya Guesthouse as there is very little which could be described as pretty to look at in Phonsavan town itself, which manages to look like a town which is permanently under construction without any construction work ever being carried out.
